YACIM (Yet Another Command-line Instant Messenging client)

latest stable: 0.2.0.6 (md5)

I find graphical IM clients cumbersome, particularly while using ION and didn't particularly like the interfaces of other curses based clients.

Yacim uses readline and supports tab completion of commands and buddy names. It parses config files and command strings using Yacc so it is easily extensible. The main advantage of using Yacim is if you would like to play around with customizing features. Yacim is mainly an interpreter for a scipting language (YacimScript), and the majority of the behavior of the client is defined in script. This makes it incredibly easy to customize behavior. For example, a few lines of script can be used to have Yacim forward messages to another account if you are away, or to change your profile to a random fortune every few minutes.

Yacim is not yet very polished. The code is quite stable but is lacking some features for user-friendliness. The documentation is minimal, so expect to be required to play around with the config files.
